It’s one of my favorite scriptures, and seeing it daily reminds me of what’s important. Anyway, I thought there might be someone out there who might like it, too. I love making pictures, making art. After 3 years of Life in the Light Photography, I’ve learned that I also love the business aspect. Every year, I look back at my written business plan to make tweaks and changes so I can mold my business into what I truly want it to be. So, as I continue to strive to be a full service, boutique-style photographer, I’m SO excited to offer an optional in-home ordering & design consultation as part of your portrait experience! I know, “experience” is kind of a cheesy word to use, but I really want you to have a great time! I want you to come away with meaningful art of your own family that you can love for generations. I have had several clients in the past who wanted a little extra help in choosing how to display their images, and I think having an ordering session could be a great way for you to see samples, narrow down choices, and get my opinion about what “works”! Here’s what one client said about her ordering & design session:

Having Senior pictures done can be very stressful…almost as stressful for the parent as the Senior. We had a wonderful experience with Emily. She provided us with so many great proofs to choose from – I was overwhelmed. I just wanted them all, but unfortunately had a budget to work with. Emily spent time with us, reviewing each picture, helping us narrow down our selection. She gave GREAT professional advice. She asked about where we would place the picture, what kind of frame we were thinking of using, and she was very understanding of my budget. I have been and will continue to highly recommend her…this was a fun, memorable part of “Senior Year”.

Keeping with my goals of maintaining a great customer experience, you may have noticed that I made a business decision to start having a session fee this year. This is due at the time you book your session to reserve your time and it includes:

Pre-session phone/email consultation
Custom portrait session on location or in your home
Artistic processing of 30-50 proofs
Private, online gallery available for 10 days where you can view your proofs, share with family and friends, and place your order
Optional in-home design/ordering consultation

With the exception of 1 item, I’ve kept my print and product prices the same as last year, and you can still see them all in my catalog. I’ve got some new products that I’ll be offering this year, too, so be sure to watch for them! And finally, the spring specials… to ease you into my session fee, you can have $25 off if you schedule soon! Also, my little charms are on sale again for Mother’s day, and you can still get free Facebook images from your session!

You wouldn’t guess it from these pictures, but it was actually pretty cold out when this senior and I went out last fall (yes, I’m still blogging from last fall, but I’m almost done–promise.) I felt kinda bad wearing my heavy coat and fingerless gloves while she was in her dress and short-sleeved shirts, so I braved the cold without them for some of the shoot. Yeah, I was still wearing a fleece, but it’s the thought that counts, right? Love this senior!

Ever since I shot at the Nelson Art Gallery in the fall two years ago, I’ve been wanting to go back at that same exact time for the yellow ginkgo trees! I knew that they turn later in the fall, so when this mom and I were chatting via email about our visions for the shoot (which was scheduled for late last fall), I asked her if she liked yellow. She said it was her favorite color, and voila… a gorgeous backdrop for portraits of her super adorable family!! It was so nice to meet you guys, and your girls were SO sweet and CUTE!

I loved meeting this sweet, natural beauty and her mom for her senior photo shoot at Antioch Park. When we got there, her mom told me that she was glad I suggested we shoot there because, when this senior was little, they used to live close by and play there! How poetic! So, you’ll see how gorgeous she is in a minute, but even though I just spent a little time with her, I can say with certainty that she is just as gorgeous on the inside. I could’ve shot her for days

On my birthday I got to snuggle with my new little nephew for these pictures. I can’t think of a better gift. He’s perfect.

I usually go for the simple newborn shots without too many props, but if you know my brother, you know we had to get a baseball in a shot!

He folded his little hands like this on his own. So sweet.

Kids will be kids, and two 2-year-olds will be two 2-year-olds. That is what makes them cute, charming, full of life, and fun to look at. These 2 were exactly that: twins that had their own agenda. My favorites of this family are all the ones where we just let the kids be kids. We DID attempt to get a posed shot of just the little ones at the end that included ~~bribery~~ rewards, but they weren’t having it. They just wanted to play around with their sweet big brother and parents and explore beautiful Ironwoods Park in the fall. Can you blame them? I think I came away with family portraits that show who they really are–portraits that FEEL. And that makes me happy.

Why did you have to wait so long to see this post (from when it was warm–hot, actually)? Because I was worried that my world famous blog with all of its 2 subscribers would ruin the surprise for a woman in Iowa. Ha! Well, anyway, this woman got a very nice Christmas present from her kids, and now, I can finally blog about it! These pictures will probably make you wish it was warm now Enjoy!
