Listening to the Lord

A good friend from when we lived in DC emailed me when we had our first baby and said, “There’s nothing as sweet as holding your new baby and listening to the Lord.” I’ve been listening a lot these past few days. God has blessed us with a baby boy!

He was born last Wednesday at 7:18 pm. We’ve been loving on him ever since! There will be many more pictures to come, I’m sure, but I’m only going to take the time to post one for now. I’ve got to go back to listening

Super smiley

I actually did this shoot awhile ago…back when this baby belly still let me get down to eye level with a crawling 9-month-old without getting stuck on the ground. It was such a fun shoot because she was so super smiley! We had fun running around Loose Park trying to stay kinda cool, and we even let this little sweetie enjoy the swings for awhile! Swing shots are hard, and I was so excited with this one…it might be my favorite swing shot ever!

I LOVE this family of 7! They are good friends of mine from church, and I had fun making their portraits! As much as I love taking pictures of babies and toddlers, it’s nice to have people who take direction . All these kids are such good kids…I hope mine turn out so well. I have a bunch of favorites from this shoot, but we’ll start with a foot picture. People have started telling me that “I know you like feet” or “well, since you like feet so much”… I never really thought about it before, but I guess I do! Feet tell such a story, I think.

Princess in Pig Tails

You are going to fall in love with this little girl. She has the cutest little features and her personality matches it perfectly! I’m not surprised since her mommy is one of the most beautiful people I know both inside and out. We’ve been great friends since high school, and I was so excited to capture some portraits of her family while we played and played and played and played. I took WAY too many pictures, but I couldn’t help myself! So without further ado, I now invite you to fall in love with this little sweetheart…

I’m in a newborn mood! (Convenient that I’ll be having one soon, huh?) This sweet-as-can-be baby was the most wide awake yet completely content and happy 8-day-old newborn I’ve ever seen! I’m not surprised because his big brother was oozing sweetness through his VERY shy facade. We just got cute picture after cute picture of this little guy while we waited for him to zonk out. I had such a hard time narrowing the pictures down to post, that’s why you’ll see a bunch. This first one cracks me up! You think he didn’t want me to take his picture?! I love it when babies make this face.

Love Letters

These dear friends asked me if I would shoot a few portraits to celebrate their upcoming 40th anniversary. I was very excited to do this for them because I knew they’d be fun! He had talked of how special the many letters were that he and his wife wrote each other during a yearlong absence from each other before they were married. I asked them if they’d be willing to include them in the shoot, and they were up for it! As a matter of fact, they ended up reading ALL of them again beforehand (which made them extra LOVEY for the camera, I’m sure ). Happy Anniversary, you two!

Misty Morning

With only a slight chance of showers, I pulled into the Sar Ko Par Park parking lot for this photo shoot and it started to rain. We waited for 15 minutes or so, and finally, this family just got out of their car–daring the rain to stop…and it DID! We went on to have a very nice shoot with these adorable twin boys and their big sister. I had not seen them since their newborn shoot. Oh, what a difference a year makes!

Me and my Belly

So, yes, I’m getting big! I thought it would be fun to post some maternity pictures of me. I’m used to being behind the camera, so it feels sorta weird… Thanks to my husband for helping me take these shots tonight! I’m 31 weeks along now, and it’s sinking in that we’re getting close to being able to hold our new little one! I’m ready

Now that you see how HUGE I really am, you’ll understand when I say that I’m now entering my maternity leave for this little one. Sessions are getting hard–especially kid sessions when I attempt to get down on their level and chase them around–not so gracefully, I might add. For those of you that are already booked…don’t worry…you’re in. I also want to enjoy this summer with my TWO kids before the number jumps to THREE! I’ll be taking it slow through the end of the year as well with prioroity given to prior clients with “milestone” shoots. I’ve got several sessions to blog about still, and I’ve got some ideas for other posts. So, hopefully, you can still get your “Life in the Light” blog fix through this time…HA! Oh, and you bet I’ll have some of our sure-to-be sweet little one this fall!

A Father’s Day Surprise

I hope everyone had a very nice Father’s Day! I love taking pictures of fathers with their kids to capture their relationship, but this session was different. These kids wanted to surprise their dad for Father’s Day with pictures of themselves! What a great idea! I think their dad will love them. Here are a few of my favorites. The last one is an outtake that cracks me up. Evidently, it was bright looking up for the picture, but come on boys… I thought guys were supposed to be tough!!

Sugar and Spice

…and everything nice. These girls were definitely made of all those things! At 1, 3, and 5 years old, they are very close-knit. I can see them as teenagers already: best friends and fighting at the same time! We did some inside, and since the weather was so nice, we went out to this family’s beautiful back yard for some more! I LOVE the dresses, so adorable! Girls, thanks for being oh so very cute!
